Principal’s Welcome Letter

Mr. Brian Edkins, Principal

Mr. Brian Edkins, Principal

Dear Students, Faculty, and Parents,

I am excited about being the educational leader and principal of South View High School. As soon as you walk into the school, it is evident that South View High School is a school that the teachers, students and administrators are excited to attend and be a part of. At South

View, we place a strong emphasis on safety, cleanliness, active student

involvement, academic rigor, and Total Quality Education.

South View High School offers three academies for our students: the International Baccalaureate Academy, the Academy of Public Safety, and the Freshman Academy.

The International Baccalaureate Academy is the only IB Academy in the region, and is an internationally accredited college preparatory program. In this program, IB students receive college level instruction in a well-rounded curriculum. Upon completion of each IB course, students can take internationally recognized examinations that will allow them to earn college credit and receive an IB Diploma at graduation.

Our Freshman Academy assists our ninth grade students make the transition from middle school to high school. At South View, we take pride in our family atmosphere and our positive school climate and want our freshman to be successful as they begin their high school career. The Freshman Academy does this by placing students in a freshman seminar class to help acclimate them to South View, they will attend classes in the freshman academy wing, and share the same cohorts for English I and freshman seminar.

The Academy of Public Safety and Security works with Fayetteville Technical Community College in preparing students in a career in Public Safety. F.T.C.C. provide college-level instructors to teach classes on the South View campus and also allows the juniors and seniors the opportunity to take courses on the F.T.C.C campus. This allows the South View student to finish high school with college credit and prepares them for college and majoring in Public Safety and Security.

In the realm of extracurricular activities, our athletic program is unmatched not only in the county, region and state, but also on a national level. The South View Athletic Department is much more than thirty-seven different teams playing sports – it is a total program that excels on different playing surfaces, excels academically in the classroom, and does a tremendous service for the community. Last year, the tigers celebrated their seventh state championship as our girls’ basketball team went 32-0 and all of our teams went ejection-free.

South View High School also has one of the largest and strongest Cultural Arts Departments in Cumberland County. Our Tiger Marching Band has over 181 members and receives numerous awards and invitations to perform across the country. South View also has an outstanding Dance, Chorus, Orchestra, Art and Theater Arts program. If you get a chance, please attend a concert, recital, or play – you will not be disappointed.

Please take an opportunity to visit our community and our school. When you talk with parents, teachers and students, you will find out very quickly why “Everybody wants to be a Tiger!”

Brian Edkins, Principal

“Success nothing Less”.
