The Cumberland County Board of Education has hired the North Carolina School Boards Association (NCSBA) to help facilitate its search for the next superintendent of the Cumberland County Schools (CCS). The Board wants direct input from members of the community to help shape the search process and to assist in defining the qualities and characteristics desired in the next CCS’ superintendent.

PreACT Assessments

The North Carolina Department of Public Instruction will soon be administering the PreACT assessments to all eligible tenth-grade students on November 8, 2017.

The PreACT assessment includes a pretest portion that includes information such as the student’s top college choices, fields of study or majors, general interests and other information that will assist colleges in pinpointing proper course selection and activity suggestions.

This pretest portion of the PreACT will not be available to students’ through the state test administration at South View High School. Parents and students can, however, voluntarily access and complete the information that is included in this pretest portion and create an ACT profile at the following website:

  • “Interested in Military” in a Miltary Career now is the time to Sign Up for the Fall 2017 ASVAB Test.
  • Registration is now open for students who are interested in pursuing a Miltary Career.
  • Please use the link to sign up to take the ASVAB this fall.
  • The deadline to sign up is Tuesday, November 28, 2017.
  • You can go to this website to take the practice tests for ASVAB Test.

HOW IMPORTANT IS THE ASVAB TEST?

  • Your scores in four critical areas — Arithmetic Reasoning, Word Knowledge, Paragraph Comprehension and Mathematics Knowledge (see below) — count towards your Armed Forces Qualifying Test (AFQT) score. The AFQT score determines whether you’re qualified to enlist in the U.S. military.
  • Your scores in the other areas of the ASVAB will determine how qualified you are for certain military occupational specialties and Enlistment Bonuses. A high score will improve your chances of getting the specialty/job and signing bonus you want.
  • Scoring high on the ASVAB will require study and concentration.
  • Don’t skimp on preparing for this test. It’s your future. Get the most out of it.
